Sebastiaan van Bavel Trio

Pianist Sebastiaan van Bavel (1992) is unmistakably a musician and composer with vision. His remarkable talent — equally rooted in both jazz and classical music — has earned him numerous accolades at a young age, and his deep affection for both genres clearly resonates in his work.
 
With confidence, Van Bavel blends diverse musical traditions. His debut trio album As The Journey Begins received an Edison Award in 2014 — an apt title, as it marked the start of a flourishing performance career, including a tour of Dutch venues and a highlight appearance at the North Sea Jazz Festival with the Metropole Orkest.
 
Now comes Cosmic Dance, an album inspired by the poetry of Indian philosopher Sri Aurobindo. It explores the connection between text and sound, merging structures from Western classical music with melodic and rhythmic concepts from Indian classical traditions. Jazz remains the foundation, offering immense freedom for the musicians. A bold and exciting voice among a new generation of Dutch jazz artists.
