Kaja Draksler
Pianist and composer Kaja Draksler was born in 1987 in Kranj, Slovenia. She moved to the Netherlands and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in jazz piano and a master’s in classical composition. Kaja has performed in various formations across Europe, Egypt, and the US. She has released no fewer than seven albums as bandleader/composer, including a solo album. Downbeat wrote about it: “The young Slovenian pianist Kaja Draksler shows off a wealth of sturdy ideas and nonchalant technique on this stunning solo recording.”
Kaja performs with two duos: Feecho and the Cudars-Draksler Duo. In Feecho she plays with Dutch drummer Onno Govaert, and together with guitarist Matiss Cudars she forms Cudars-Draksler. Both duos focus on free improvisation. Feecho emphasizes rhythmic possibilities, while Cudars centers around short motifs and melodies. The Young VIP tour provides a great opportunity for these three musicians to explore the diverse possibilities of the repertoire. A trio is not excluded!
