Loran Witteveen Kwintet

Loran Witteveen (1988) graduated in June 2014 with a master’s degree in jazz piano, studying with, among others, Harmen Fraanje. After winning the soloist prize at the Keep an Eye International Jazz Competition in 2013, Loran had the opportunity to take lessons in New York, studying with renowned artists such as Fred Hersch and Aaron Parks. Last year, he won the Dutch Jazz Competition with his quintet and performed at, among others, the North Sea Jazz Festival.

The Loran Witteveen Quintet consists of pianist Loran, Toms Rudzinskis and Jasper van Damme on alto saxophones, Lennart Heyndels on bass, and Pit Dahm on drums. The compositions are adventurous, playful, and surprising. They draw inspiration from, among others, 20th-century classical music. From the jury report of the Dutch Jazz Competition: “Incredibly tight interplay with which they managed to perform complex compositions of interwoven melodic lines live with ease.”
