Floris van der Vlugt
The young, energetic Floris van der Vlugt (1981) is without a doubt one of the Netherlands’ great saxophonists and composers of the future. Floris is a particularly versatile musician. In 2007, he graduated from the Amsterdam Conservatory. Since then, he has worked with countless bands. Some examples from past and present include: Felix Schlarmann Group (Franz Von Chossy, Lars Dietrich), Wicked Jazz Sounds, Roos Jonker, Pete Philly, Perquisite, Kris Berry, Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra, Room Eleven.
In 2012, Floris founded Windkracht 7, a young septet with a special lineup: Floris van der Vlugt (saxophone), Reinier Baas (guitar), Morris Kliphuis (horn), Robbert Scherpenisse (trumpet), Jamie Peet (drums), Katharina Thomsen (saxophone), and Mark Haanstra (bass). Windkracht 7’s music is accessible, cinematic, and expressive. He already performed with his septet at North Sea Jazz in 2013, and in 2014 the debut album will be released. Right after that, the Young Vips tour kicks off.
Jazzenzo: “Windkracht 7 moves deftly through numerous styles, including (free) jazz, rock, and (modern) classical or film music, but is above all a pleasantly quirky and dynamic band driven by the boundless energy of adventurous young musicians within the Dutch jazz scene.”
