About

The Porgy and Pit Foundation was formed in the summer of 2024 following a merger between Poppodium De Pit and Cultuurpodium Porgy and Bess in Terneuzen. Both venues are within walking distance of each other in the town centre. We are proud to say that Porgy – which has been active since 1957 – has put Terneuzen on the national map. Countless greats across a wide range of genres, from jazz to blues and from classical music to literature, have graced this special stage. These include Chet Baker, Astrid Gilberto, Mathieu van Bellen, Adriaan van Dis, Benjamin Herman, Art Blakey, Toots Thielemans and Drive By Truckers. Porgy and Bess has grown into a cultural institution that must evolve with the times. We are now firmly committed to this, and Porgy is doing so not alone, but in partnership with Poppodium De Pit. Previously, this was a punk-inspired youth centre known as Kalashnikov, where you could mainly go for heavy music. At De Pit, a new direction has been set in motion with numerous gigs and dance events, attracting a much broader and younger audience to the venue. Think of acts such as Admiral Freebee, Anneke van Giersbergen, Tim Akkerman, Hof van Commerce, Anika Nilles and Pestilence.

Capacity of the Porgy and Pit Cultural Centre: 150 seats or 250 standing places.

Capacity of De Pit: up to 350 standing places, including a lockable café area for 75 visitors.
